You may have already noticed that our yurts are not as expensive as others you might find advertised! This is NOT because they are of lesser quality, but because of the manufacturing methods used. Traditional yurt makers tend to use coppiced wood, steam-bent roof poles and traditional construction methods such as leather ties. This is great for authenticity, but is not particularly practical and is very time consuming. The roof wheel is made of wood. Of course, this isn’t great for the damp UK weather either, as wood and leather rot easily. The cost of coppiced wood combined with the time- intensive construction means that these yurts are bound to be more expensive, and yet they won’t last as long. Our yurt makers use traditional bamboo for the roof poles and modern construction methods such as purpose-made connecting fittings and aluminium framework. This is great for durability, lightness and practicality. Our roof wheel is made of tubular aluminium and houses a Perspex roof-light. It’s also much better for our weather! We keep our covers and doors to the traditional style – you really can’t beat a canvas cover, a felt liner and a cotton lining cloth. However, always looking to give our customers a choice, we can offer an alternative twist to the traditional painted cover by offering a landscape mural around the outer wall of the yurt. Choose from a woodland landscape or a lake view and you can blend discreetly into your environment.
