First, a little about us. We have been manufacturing tents, canvas covers and just about everything that can be stitched or welded together since 1985. We have made yurts since 1999, both in the UK and abroad. When we decided to specialise in yurts, one of our major concerns about the traditional style yurt was the fact that the trellis walls come as one piece. This means that on a larger yurt the length of the trellis is over 75ft (23m) long which is not only very unwieldy to put up, but also not very easy to repair. We were initially reluctant to move with the times, but a member of our team, currently based in China ( which is geographically bound by Mongolia) pointed out that had the Mongolians had access to aluminium, they would have been the first to modernise their yurt design! Another important factor is the weather here in the UK. Mongolia is a dry country where wooden roof wheels sit happily in the yurts for years. However, bring a wooden roof wheel into the British climate and it will warp and rot. We didn’t feel happy about supplying something short-lasting so again we concluded that Mongolians would support the need for an aluminium roof wheel and a ro-bust Perspex roof-light in our rather damp climate. So, when you look at our yurts, you’ll see that everything slots easily into place without the need for yards of rope, and the yurt is automatically a perfect round shape thanks to the aluminium rings at top and bottom – no sagging!
